PERRY WEBSTER IS THE HEAD COACH OF THE FULLERTON COLLEGE HORNETS IN FULLERTON, CALIFORNIA WHO PLAY IN THE ORANGE EMPIRE CONFERENCE IN CCCAA IN JUCO BASKETBALL. HE WAS A GUARD FOR THE CSUF TITANS IN THE BIG WEST CONFERENCE. IN SHARING ADVICE FOR YOUNG COACES, PERRY WROTE, “THE BIGGEST THING YOUNG PLAYERS NEED TO REALIZE AND UNDERSTAND IS THAT ADVERSITY IS GOING TO STRIKE. IT’S GOING TO VARY ON HOW DIFFICULT IT IS TO OVERCOME FROM DAY TO DAY, BUT THERE ARE GOING TO BE MOMENTS IN WHICH EACH PLAYER IS TESTED.  THE ABILITY TO OVERCOME ADVERSITY IS WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT IN HAVING SUCCESS AND ACHIEVING DREAMS. WE ALL GO TO SLEEP EVERY NIGHT WITH DREAMS AND ASPIRATIONS, AND THAT IS IMPORTANT TO HAVE, BUT IT’S ALSO IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND HOW MANY BUMPS IN THE ROAD THERE ARE GOING TO BE BETWEEN WHERE YOU ARE AND WHERE YOUR DREAMS ARE.  OVERCOMING OBSTACLES IN HOOPS WILL TRANSLATE TO ALL ASPECTS OF LIFE. EACH KID, EACH HIGH SCHOOL PLAYER NEEDS TO UNDERSTAND THAT. THE MOST DIFFICULT THING WE EXPERIENCE IN BASKETBALL IS NOWHERE NEAR COMPARABLE TO SOME OF LIFE’S OBSTACLES. BE READY TO ATTACK ADVERSITY HEAD ON, STAY TRUE TO YOUR DREAM, AND ENJOY EACH OBSTACLE THAT YOU OVERCOME.”
