I’D LIKE TO THANK LYNDA DAY WHO IS THE HEAD COACH FOR JOHN JAY COLLEGE OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE BLOODHOUNDS WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM IN NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK IN THE CUNYAC IN NCAA DIII FOR SHARING ADVICE WITH THE CANNON NETWORK. SHE SHARED, “IF I COULD LOOK BACK AND GIVE MY YOUNGER SELF SOME ADVICE, IT WOULD BE TO NOT TRY AND BE LIKE ANYONE ELSE OTHER THAN YOURSELF. EARLY ON AS A HEAD COACH, I LISTENED TO THE ADVICE OF GREAT COACHES, BUT THEIR THOUGHTS AND IDEAS DID NOT MATCH MY PERSONALITY. AS MUCH AS LEARNING ALL SPORT SPECIFIC CONCEPTS ARE IMPORTANT TO BE A GREAT COACH, IF I COULD GO BACK I WOULD HAVE FOCUSED MORE ON LEARNING ABOUT PEOPLE. THE IMPACT THAT YOU CAN MAKE AS A COACH IS MUCH GREATER WHEN YOU LEARN AND CARE ABOUT YOUR PLAYERS AS PEOPLE FIRST THEN AS AN ATHLETE.”
