I’D LIKE TO THANK DONOVAN WOMACK OF NORTH HOLLYWOOD HIGH SCHOOL HUSKIES IN NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA FOR SHARING ADVICE WITH THE CANNON NETWORK. HE SHARED, “I AM COACH DONOVAN WOMACK OF NORTH HOLLYWOOD HS. THIS IS MY SECOND YEAR WITH THE PROGRAM. I SPENT THE 20-21 SEASON AS AN ASSISTANT WITH ARLETA HIGH SCHOOL. FROM 2017-2020 COACHING IN DELAWARE WHERE I AM FROM FOR MCKEAN HIGH SCHOOL. I CURRENTLY STILL PLAY BASKETBALL AT THE SEMI PROFESSIONAL LEVEL AND I VOLUNTEER WITH THE LA SPARKS AS PRACTICE STAFF. ONE THING I’VE CARRIED WITH ME AS A PLAYER AND COACH IS “ONE TEAM ONE GOAL”. I ASK MY GUYS TO ALWAYS REMAIN COACHABLE, NEVER BE TOO PROUD TO LEARN. I NEVER ASK PLAYERS TO DO ANYTHING I WOULDN’T EXPECT OUT OF MYSELF AS A PLAYER. I HOLD MY PLAYERS TO THE STANDARD OF BEING CONFIDENT YET REALISTIC. I WANT THEM TO BE CONFIDENT ENOUGH TO PLAY FREELY MAKE INDEPENDENT DECISIONS AS A TEAM AND REACT TO THE GAMES FLOW. IF THEY RETAIN ALL THE TOOLS AND HABITS WE BUILD IN PRACTICE IT WILL ALLOW ME TO BE A MORE RELAXED COACH WHEN THINGS GET TIGHT. MY ADVICE TO YOUNG COACHES IS THAT BUILDING TRUST AS A PROGRAM TAKES TIME AND I LEARN THAT YEAR BY YEAR.”
