I will start sharing my thoughts on concepts that are applicable to living as Christians as well as people in the sports world. The first meaning for the word action in Merriam-Webster is a: a thing done: deed. The ultimate deed done in the history of our world is found in {John 19.28-30 After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, “I thirst!” Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on hyssop, and put it to His mouth. So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.} With the knowledge that Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins and that we are saved through faith in Jesus as explained in {Romans10: 8-10  But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.} we are able to obey the Lord with our actions in the context of our daily lives as Christians as well as in the world of sports. We can obey the Lord through our deeds including giving as explained in {2 Corinthians 9:7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.} serving others through the love Christ has for us as explained in (Galatians 5:13 For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.) etc. In the sports world, athletes can glorify the Lord through their deeds including assists, rebounds, dunks, threes, steals and blocks in basketball, touchdowns and tackles in football, strikeouts and home runs in baseball, goals in hockey and soccer, etc. Coaches can glorify the Lord through their practice and game plans, team managers can glorify God through filling up player water bottles and doing what the coaches and players ask during practices and games, etc. Our actions reflect the fact that we as Christians are part of the same body with different functions as explained in (Romans 12: 4 For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function.) The church is one body and sports teams are one unit and God can be glorified through our actions.
