I’D LIKE TO THANK DAVID GURGANUS WHO IS THE HEAD COACH FOR THE HUNTINGDON COLLEGE HAWKS IN MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA IN THE COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE OF THE SOUTH IN NCAA DIII FOR SHARING ADVICE WITH THE CANNON NETWORK. HE SHARED, “BE GREAT AT THE CONTROLLABLES AND LITTLE THINGS. THIS CREATES GREAT HABITS. SOME PEOPLE THINK YOU HAVE TO DO SOMETHING PROFOUND AND BE SOMETHING BIG. IN REALITY IT’S ABOUT BEING CONSISTENTLY GREAT AT THE CONTROLLABLES AND LITTLE THINGS. IN DOING THIS, YOU CAN CREATE PROFOUND SUCCESS. JORDAN AND KOBE OBSESSED OVER THE FUNDAMENTALS. I’D ALSO SAY THAT HAVING A SET OF CLEAR STANDARDS FOR YOUR PROGRAM AND LIVING BY THOSE STANDARDS ARE KEY. THESE, TOO, CREATE GREAT HABITS. IT CREATES DISCIPLINE. DISCIPLINE TRANSLATES AND CORRELATES FROM ON AND OFF THE COURT. WHEN WE HAVE STANDARDS THAT WE LIVE BY IT ELIMINATES DISTRACTIONS AND OVERTHINKING. LASTY, DON’T FORGET ABOUT RELATIONSHIPS. RELATIONSHIPS WITH EACH YOUNG MAN IS KEY. BOUNDARIES ARE IMPORTANT. YOU ARE THEIR COACH, BUT THEY NEED TO KNOW THAT YOU LOVE THEM. WHEN THEY FEEL YOUR LOVE, THEY WILL BELIEVE IN YOU AND YOUR STANDARDS.”
