I’D LIKE TO THANK DOMINIQUE BOONE WHO IS THE HEAD COACH FOR THE WARREN WILSON COLLEGE OWLS IN ASHEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA IN THE COAST-TO-COAST ATHLETIC CONFERENCE IN NCAA DIII FOR SHARING ADVICE FOR YOUNG COACHES WITH THE CANNON NETWORK. HE SHARED, “FOR YOUNG COACHES AND EVEN ALL COACHES POSITIVE ENERGY AND ENTHUSIASM GOES A LONG WAY. WE NEED IT TO HAVE CONVICTION BEHIND WHAT WE ARE DOING AND IT ALLOWS YOUR TEAM TO BELIEVE LIKE YOU THAT WHAT WE ARE DOING WILL WORK IF EVERYONE BELIEVES IN IT. ALSO TO GO A STEP BEYOND THE ENERGY, FOCUS ON DEVELOPING GENUINE RELATIONSHIPS WITH EACH MEMBER OF THE TEAM BEYOND BASKETBALL. AS THE SAYING GOES, “IT’S NOT HOW MUCH YOU KNOW, BUT HOW MUCH YOU CARE.” AS COACHES WE WANT TO WIN, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY WE JUST WANT TO HAVE A GREAT EXPERIENCE WITH OUR TEAM AND REGARDLESS OF TALENT OR STYLE OF PLAY, HAVING A TEAM THAT BELIEVES AS WELL AS WORKS/PLAYS HARD WILL ALWAYS PROVIDE THAT EXPERIENCE.”
