JOE WHITE IS THE ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH FOR THE IDAHO STATE UNIVERSITY BENGALS IN POCATELLO, IDAHO. I MET HIM A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO AT A GAME AT LINN-BENTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROADRUNNERS IN ALBANY, OREGON WHEN HE WAS AN ASSISTANT COACH FOR THE LANE COMMUNITY COLLEGE TITANS. IN SHARING HIS ADVICE WITH ME, JOE WROTE, “MY BIGGEST PIECE OF ADVICE TO YOUNG COACHES OR PLAYERS IS TO REFUSE TO BE OUTWORKED. THERE ARE A LOT OF THINGS THAT WE ARE UNABLE TO CONTROL, BUT HOW HARD WE WORK IS SOMETHING THAT IS IN OUR CONTROL AT ALL TIMES. IF YOU’RE WILLING TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND ACCEPT OTHERS OUTWORKING YOU, YOU ARE ESSENTIALLY ACCEPTING OF THEM GAINING, EARNING, AND HAVING WHAT YOU WANT BUT DON’T HAVE.”
