I’D LIKE TO THANK TODD DIXON WHO IS THE HEAD COACH FOR THE SANTIAGO CANYON
COLLEGE HAWKS IN ORANGE, CALIFORNIA IN THE ORANGE EMPIRE CONFERENCE IN THE
CCCAA IN JUCO BASKETBALL FOR SHARING ADVICE FOR YOUNG COACHES AND HIS
THOUGHTS ON 2021-22 CAMPAIGN WITH THE CANNON NETWORK.
HE SHARED, “ADVICE FOR YOUNG COACHES MY ADVICE FOR YOUNG COACHES IS TO BE HUMBLE AND WORK HARD. LEARN AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE IN EVERY SITUATION. TRY TO LEARN FROM DIFFERENT COACHES. ALSO, BE YOUR OWN PERSON AND DON’T JUST EMULATE ONE COACH THAT YOU WORKED FOR. IT IS IMPORTANT TO PUT YOUR OWN PHILOSOPHY AND STYLE INTO YOUR TEAM. EVEN AS YOU GET MORE EXPERIENCED ALWAYS BE WILLING TO LEARN FROM OTHERS. LASTLY, AS YOU WATCH GAMES IN PERSON OR ON TELEVISION, WATCH WITH A COACHES’ PERSPECTIVE AND NOT A FAN’S. YOU CAN PICK UP A LOT OF SET PLAYS AND STRATEGIES WHEN WATCHING GAMES AS A COACH.
THOUGHTS ON UPCOMING SEASON I’M EXCITED TO HAVE A FULL SEASON IN FRONT OF US. LAST YEAR, WE WERE LUCKY ENOUGH TO PLAY 8 GAMES AND HAVE SOME RESEMBLANCE OF A SEASON. HAVING A FULL SEASON IS GREAT FOR THE STUDENT-ATHLETES AND WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO THE GRIND. OUR TEAM HAS A GOOD MIXTURE OF EXPERIENCED PLAYERS AND TRUE FRESHMEN. WE HOPE TO CONTINUE TO BUILD ON OUR EARLY SUCCESS AS A PROGRAM. THE ORANGE EMPIRE CONFERENCE IS GOING TO BE LOADED WITH TALENT FROM TOP TO BOTTOM AND THERE WILL BE A LOT OF GREAT GAMES.”
